I Don’t Trust People
· Unique Soul
I don’t trust people, not because I’m hurt, but because I’ve healed.
There was a time when I thought healing meant becoming softer with everyone. More forgiving. More open. More willing to give people the benefit of the doubt.
Now I think healing looks a little different.
Healing taught me to stop confusing understanding someone with trusting them. To stop explaining away behavior that made me uncomfortable. To stop handing people access to me simply because I could understand why they were the way they were.
I don’t need to hate you to know I can’t trust you.
I don’t need to be angry to create distance.
And I don’t need another painful experience to prove to myself that something feels off.
Maybe that’s the part people misunderstand about healing. You don’t necessarily come out of it believing everyone is good. You come out of it knowing that everyone doesn’t need access to you.
I trust myself now.
And sometimes trusting myself means trusting what I see. Trusting what I feel. Trusting patterns instead of promises. Trusting consistency over potential.
So no, I’m not closed off because I’m wounded.
I’m selective because I finally understand that peace is not something I should keep sacrificing just to prove I have a good heart.
